Power Shift? Meet the New MKP Provincial Leaders Who Left Shivambu Talking
Unexpected names, bold strategies—what's next for the rising political force?

Major political shake-up, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has officially announced its new provincial leadership structures—an unveiling that reportedly left Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu with much to say. The announcement, made on Monday, February 24, 2025, in Sandton, Johannesburg, signals a strategic push as the party cements its presence ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
With the MK Party emerging as a formidable player since its establishment in December 2023, the newly appointed leaders will be instrumental in shaping the party’s trajectory. The names revealed during the press briefing include:
- Gauteng: Luther Lebelo
- KwaZulu-Natal: Gobizizwe Makhanya
- Eastern Cape: Advocate Dali Mpofu
- Limpopo: Ndumiso Matlala
- Mpumalanga: Sibusiso Radebe
- North West: Prince Mokotedi
- Northern Cape: Dr. Sifiso Maseko
- Free State: Daisy Tshiloane
- Western Cape: Dr. Thanti Mthanti
Each provincial leader will work alongside a three-member National High Command (NHC) team, ensuring the party’s policies are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
However, it was Advocate Dali Mpofu’s appointment as Eastern Cape leader that turned heads. A former chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and a well-known legal heavyweight, Mpofu’s move to the MK Party raises questions about political shifts within opposition ranks. His leadership in the Eastern Cape—one of South Africa’s most politically strategic provinces—adds a layer of intrigue to the party’s growing influence.
Addressing the media, Shivambu emphasized the meticulous process behind these appointments:
“We have identified leaders who not only align with the MK Party’s vision but are also committed to transformative change. This team is ready to drive our agenda forward with unwavering dedication.”
Deputy Secretary-General Nombuso Mkhize echoed these sentiments, highlighting the party’s grassroots focus:
“Our strength lies in our communities. These provincial structures will help amplify the voices of ordinary citizens and bring real solutions to their challenges.”
With the political landscape shifting and the 2026 elections looming, all eyes will be on these newly appointed leaders. Will they deliver on the MK Party’s promises, or will internal and external pressures test their resolve? One thing is certain—the race for political dominance in South Africa just got more intense.
