Phosa Drops Bombshell on ANC: Gaddafi’s Millions Revealed

Former Treasurer General's Shocking Claims Resurface Old Ties and Stir Political Waters

South Africa’s former African National Congress (ANC) Treasurer General Mathews Phosa has alleged that the late Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, provided financial support to the ANC during its centenary celebrations in 2012. The claim, which reignites long-standing speculation about Gaddafi’s connections to the ANC, paints a vivid picture of clandestine financial dealings from a bygone era.

Phosa, who served as Treasurer General between 2007 and 2012, stated in a recent interview that Gaddafi’s contributions were specifically intended to fund ANC activities during the party’s milestone year. “Yes, Gaddafi contributed money to the ANC. It was explicitly for supporting the party in the run-up to the 100-year celebrations,” he revealed. However, he withheld details regarding the exact amount or the specifics of how the funds were utilized.

The connection between Gaddafi and the ANC stretches back to South Africa’s apartheid struggle, during which Libya provided financial and military aid to liberation movements across the continent. Gaddafi’s Pan-Africanist ideology often saw him forging alliances with African leaders and political parties, with the ANC being a prominent beneficiary.

In a separate disclosure, Phosa also shed light on the ANC’s closely contested 2017 NASREC leadership conference. He claimed that Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, a prominent political figure and former chairperson of the African Union, was initially poised to win the presidency. According to Phosa, her chances were derailed when other contenders withdrew and consolidated their support behind Cyril Ramaphosa, paving his way to a narrow victory.

“The decision to rally behind Ramaphosa was a calculated move by key ANC figures to ensure stability within the party,” Phosa commented. This revelation has sparked renewed debate about the power plays within the ANC and the external forces that have shaped its trajectory over the years.

As these explosive claims circulate, questions surrounding the ANC’s financial history and internal political maneuvers continue to dominate public discourse, offering a glimpse into the complexities of South African politics.
